Before the renovation project of this ancient millstone, it was necessary to reconstruct the history of the place, understand its essence, imagine the life that took place there. The structure was divided into several buildings, some with vaulted roofs and others with a wooden pitched roof, located around the two external spaces of relevance, namely an entrance courtyard and a large garden. The intervention was of a conservative nature for all the pre-existing volumes except for the central core. This allowed to expand the outdoor space and to connect the entrance courtyard to the garden, guaranteeing greater flexibility in the paths. Around the central core, which houses the living area and the kitchen, are the other buildings that are used as bedrooms and services and remain independent of each other, enjoying a direct relationship with the outside world. These places, once dedicated to work, have been redesigned according to a program of contemporary use. Particular attention was paid to the possibility, for the user, to fully experience the living spaces in their entirety and autonomy, even during the coexistence of several families.In this project the ancient pre-existences coexist simultaneously and in balance with objects and habits of contemporary living, in their original state.

L’edificio si presentava articolato in più corpi di fabbrica, alcuni con copertura a volta altri con tetto a falda in legno, dislocati intorno ai due spazi esterni di pertinenza, ossia una corte di ingresso e un ampio giardino. L’intervento è stato di tipo conservativo per tutti i volumi preesistenti tranne che per il nucleo centrale, di cui, a seguito di un crollo in fase di cantiere, è stata ricostruita solo una porzione. Questo ha consentito di ampliare lo spazio esterno, collegare la corte di ingresso al giardino, garantendo maggiore flessibilità nei percorsi. Intorno al nucleo centrale, che accoglie la zona living e la cucina, si articolano gli altri fabbricati adibiti a camere da letto e servizi, che rimangono indipendenti tra loro e godono di un rapporto diretto con l’esterno. Questi luoghi, una volta dediti al lavoro, sono stati ripensati secondo un programma d’uso contemporaneo. Particolare attenzione è stata posta alla possibilità, per il fruitore, di vivere pienamente gli spazi dell’abitare nella loro totalità e autonomia, anche durante la convivenza di più nuclei familiari. In questo progetto convivono simultaneamente e in equilibrio le antiche preesistenze, nel loro stato originario, con oggetti e abitudini del vivere contemporaneo.
