I Trasformati has been an architecture, design and prototyping workshop born from an idea by Fabiano Spano, with Echomaterico and AFA (Architecs in a Farm), Musagetes Foundation, Loop House and the Municipality of Lecce as part of the Italia Wave Love Festival 2011. For ten days this lab led to the transformation of the Scipione Ammirato villa in Lecce into the Ammirato Cultural House. A common house – “hub” – conceived to activate processes of participation and collaboration between various cultural, local and international actors thanks to an agreement between the Municipality of Lecce, the cultural association Loop House and Musagetes, a Canadian foundation that supports social change through artistic practices. The event has involved artists, architects, designers, businesses, residents of the neighbourhood and students in a shared self-construction workshop that had the purpose of encouraging sustainability, energy self-sufficiency and promoting practices of active participation. All the participants have had the opportunity to discuss the issues of sustainability in architecture, to conceive and build self-sufficient structures (through photovoltaics applied on a small scale) and to experiment with functional and decorative eco-design solutions, through the reuse of waste materials.
