The building was configured as a heterogeneous whole, devoid of balance between open spaces and pre-existing artifacts; each single room was the result of additions and a random process, without volumetric rules. Specifically, the property consisted of two distinct buildings: one occupying the southern portion of the lot, with the stylistic and formal characteristics of the window openings, datable to the early twentieth century; the other, different in the roofing systems, which revealed different constructive moments. The design proposal has aimed to re-establish a renewed and more composite balance between the building and the garden, opening the entire western part with large windows, establishing an internal alignment of the building front. In this way the project has been directly linked to the traditional and historical relationship existing in the buildings of the Land of Otranto, between the internal front and the pertinent green area. The intervention aims to preserve the interpretation of the architectural and construction features of the two main existing buildings with the aim of integrating them into a single housing unit and enhancing them within a distribution of spaces more suitable for contemporary use.
